John Dyer
Managing Director
John Dyer, Managing Director, is based in Aquilo Partner's Boston office. He brings extensive experience in healthcare investment banking, spanning partnerships, sell-side advisory, acquisitions, divestitures, IPOs, and follow-on offerings across the biotechnology, specialty pharma, and diagnostics sectors.
Prior to Aquilo Partners in 2009, John was an Executive Director at JPMorgan, where he advised biotechnology clients on a broad range of strategic and financing engagements. Before joining JPMorgan in 2006, John spent six years with Cowen and Company, focusing on small and mid-cap biotechnology clients in New York and San Francisco.
John received a Master's degree in International Business Administration from the Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina, where he graduated Beta Gamma Sigma, and a BA degree from the University of Virginia.

David Metzger
Managing Director
David Metzger, Managing Director, is based in Aquilo Partner's New York office. David brings over 20 years of life science investment banking expertise, with broad experience in therapeutics, diagnostics, and research tools. Prior to joining Aquilo Partners in 2003, he worked as a paralegal on health care and other corporate transactions at the law firm of Winston & Strawn in Washington, DC.
David received a BA degree from Cornell in 1999 with Phi Beta Kappa honors and a double-major in chemistry and philosophy.

John Rumsey
Managing Director
John Rumsey, Managing Director, is based in Aquilo Partner's San Francisco office. He brings over 30 years of life science investment banking expertise, specializing in biotechnology, specialty pharma, and medical devices.
Prior to co-founding Aquilo Partners, John spent 12 years in life science investment banking at Hambrecht & Quist and PaineWebber. He began his career in 1989 in investment banking at PaineWebber Development Corporation, which provided capital to leading biotechnology companies such as Alkermes, Amgen, Centocor, Cephalon, Genentech, Genzyme and Repligen.
In 1994, John joined Hambrecht & Quist, where he continued to focus on life sciences and worked extensively in biotechnology, specialty pharma and medical devices. His clients at H&Q included Cephalon, Centocor, Connectics, Darwin, Dura, Durect, EVT, Genzyme, Gilead, Incyte, Intermune, Invitrogen, i-STAT, Khepri, King, Ligand, Medicis, Novoste, SangStat, Shire, Sugen, Unimed, and Versicor (Vicuron).
John received a BA degree from Williams College.

Jason Yip
Managing Director
Jason Yip, Managing Director, is based in Aquilo Partner's San Francisco office. Jason joined Aquilo Partners in 2012 from Montgomery & Co. where he was a Principal and headed up the firm’s healthcare investment banking group. Joining Montgomery in 2008, Jason advised public and private medical device and diagnostics clients on a wide range of strategic and financing engagements. From 2001 to 2008, Jason was a member of the healthcare investment banking group at Jefferies in San Francisco, where he focused on small and mid-cap public and private medical technology clients. Prior to Jefferies, Jason was a consultant with Fletcher Spaght in Boston, a boutique strategy consulting firm focused on healthcare and life science companies and their investors.
His experience includes sellsides, buysides, private placements, divestitures and IPO and follow-on offerings (both equity and debt) in the medical device, diagnostic and life science tools sectors.
Jason received a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and a MEng and BS in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Jim Zanze

Jim Zanze, Managing Director, is based in Aquilo Partner's San Francisco office. He brings over 30 years of investment banking expertise in the life sciences, with a focus on therapeutics, medical devices, and diagnostics.
Before co-founding Aquilo Partners in 2003, Jim served as Managing Director and Head of Private Placements at JPMorgan and Hambrecht & Quist. During his 11-year tenure, he led the group's growth to 34 professionals globally and successfully raised more than $13 billion in private equity for both public and private companies. Jim began his career at Salomon Brothers Inc. in the Venture Capital Group.
Jim has also contributed his leadership as a director at the California Pacific Medical Center, where he chaired the investment committee overseeing its $350 million endowment. He received his BA degree from Middlebury College.

Ian MacKay
Managing Director
Ian MacKay, Managing Director, is based in Florida. Ian joined Aquilo Partners in 2015 and has broad experience in life science investment banking with a focus on raising private capital for tools and diagnostics companies.
Ian received a BA degree in Biochemistry and Economics from Middlebury College in 2015. At Middlebury College, he worked as an economic research assistant and was a member of the Men’s Varsity Swim team.

Kelly Gross, Principal, is based in Aquilo Partner's San Francisco office. Kelly joined Aquilo Partners in 2017 and has expertise in the biopharma sector focused on strategic advisory and transactions.
Prior to joining Aquilo Partners, Kelly worked as a consultant at Trinity Partners, a life sciences consulting firm based in Waltham, MA. Kelly received a BA degree in Molecular Biology from Princeton University in 2015. At Princeton University, she was a member of the Women’s Varsity Water Polo team.

Prior to joining Aquilo Partners, Eric interned at Fundación Ciencia para la Vida. He received a BA degree from Middlebury College in 2017 with a double major in English & American Literatures and Spanish.

Prior to joining Aquilo Partners, Mateen interned at Credit Suisse in the Equity Capital Markets group. Mateen received a BA degree in Mathematics in 2020 from Amherst College. At Amherst College, he was a member of the Men’s Varsity Squash team.

Elijah Choos, Analyst, is based in Aquilo Partner's New York office. Elijah joined Aquilo Partners in 2023, with a scientific background.
Elijah received a BS degree in Human Science in 2023 from Georgetown University, where he conducted research characterizing the inflammatory profile of Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease under SGLT2 inhibition. At Georgetown University, Elijah was a member of the Men’s Heavyweight Rowing team.
